The Wardenclyffe is a lo-fi ambient modulator. It emulates the magical lo-fi textures of early audio recordings. Inspired by Nikola Tesla's Wardenclyffe Tower, the pedal attempts to capture the essence of one of the most mysterious and odd scientists of the century. Wardenclyffe Tower, also known as the Tesla Tower, was an early experimental wireless transmission station designed and built by Nikola Tesla on Long Island in 1901–1902, located in the village of Shoreham, New York. Tesla intended to transmit messages, telephony and even facsimile images across the Atlantic to England and to ships at sea based on his theories of using the Earth to conduct the signals.
The contract was agreed upon in February of 1901 and signed in March for Morgan to give Tesla $150,000 to build a tower to transmit radio. 2020-11-01 · Wardenclyffe Tower from Tesla and Robinson Streets.JPG 5,152 × 3,864; 7.9 MB Wardenclyffe Tower full view.jpg 345 × 600; 64 KB Wardenclyffe tower tesla new york demolition july september 1917.png 1,000 × 546; 317 KB Aquí levantó una comunidad conocida como Wardenclyffe-On-Sound. Nikola Tesla planned to build another two towers to duplicate the tower with the large sphere on top. The three towers, one for each powerhouse, would each have a 500-foot well. The water at the bottom of the well was to be kept warm and was not to exceed a certain temperature (and could be also because of the conductivity of the water?) .

Tesla described his sensational plans for the tower in an article: Wardenclyffe Tower: Tesla’s Dream of a World System of Wireless Power Distribution. After completing his work in Colorado Springs Tesla departed on 7 January 1900; his laboratory being dismantled to cover some of his debts. With his new discoveries now in hand events moved rapidly forwards, with Tesla seeking out financial backing to construct the first power plant/wireless transmission station of the ‘world system’ he envisioned. Wardenclyffe Tower became a 186-foot-tall relic (it would be razed in 1917), and the defeat—Tesla’s worst—led to another of his breakdowns.
Tesla himself was a Serbian immigrant to the United States, and a genius inventor.

Realising the near worthlessness of the Hertz waves, Tesla's work led him to consider the wireless transmission of signals and power through the Earth itself. The focus was therefore upon the ground current, and to this end the Wardenclyffe plant had a very elaborate subsurface component.

Constructed during the period of 1901-05, the Wardenclyffe facility was based on another of Tesla’s revolutionary ideas. Tesla planned to use the tower to achieve what the scientific community had so far considered impossible: a global, wireless communication system.
