2020-09-10 The official Universal Design for Learning Guidelines posits three principles that form the framework of UDL (CAST, 2011): Representation (the “what”): Everybody absorbs information differently. People with sensory issues may not be able to handle some audiovisual materials, while that may be the only way for someone who struggles with text to learn. Universal Design for Learning in Practice Accessibility and aspiring to barrier-free learning is the responsibility of every instructor. You may feel overwhelmed by the learning curve or by the challenges of managing specific needs and requests, but taking the time to learn inclusive, equitable, and accessible teaching practices can benefit all learners, not just those with disabilities. Universal design is also known as: inclusive design, design-for-all, human centred design, design for diversity, and user centred design. While some might argue there are differences, they all aim for the same thing – an inclusive world.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a way of thinking about teaching and learning that helps give all students an equal opportunity to succeed. This approach offers flexibility in the ways students access material, engage with it and show what they know. I detta syfte tycker jag att det är motiverat att byta ut begreppet specialpedagogik mot begreppet inkluderande undervisning som Nilholm & Göransson (2016) skriver om. UDL - Universell Design för Lärande. Var och en som finns på vår skola ska kunna få det hen behöver. Därför arbetar vi med universell design för lärande - UDL. Det betyder att vi försöker tänka på att det vi gör i skolan ska vara utvecklande och tillgängligt för alla. Så att man kan lära sig massor varje dag.
